My novel in new language: The process so far (part 3)
A little bit more than two months passed and I’m close to finish the first part of the translation. It was super fast as I expected it to be completed in more than three months. I learned a lot of tips and tricks along the way which once again proved that it is only important to start doing things and then everything else fits into place. I believe the same thing will happen with the rest of the process: first stage of editing, professional edit and proofread and then the beta readers. But as usual, I don’t think too much about what needs to be done the next day. I’m focused on moment, although these last couple of days it’s difficult not to think about finally finishing this first stage, a rough translation.
I was a bit worried about the purpose of this first part of the book (I split it in two parts because the whole book is too big). Let me explain. I’ve been already writing book series and what I liked to do was to round and finish the story of each part. Of course, there’s a big story that extends through the whole series, but each single book has its own beginning and the end. With “Invasion” it was difficult to do so I decided no to do it at all. Last chapter of the first part has some great battle scenes which can look like finale of the book, but the true story and most, if not all, plots and subplots will be concluded in the second part.
But that doesn’t mean that you as a reader won’t enjoy it. While I’ve been writing this book, my goal was to not put the reader’s focus on reaching final pages. I wanted you to enjoy the ride. There’s a lot of subplots and different characters whose adventures create tension and fun in each chapter. I mean, that was my goal — we will see how it’ll turn out. But after all, the point of the book is not in revealing some secret at the final chapter. It’s about the journey and experiencing the adventure with one or many characters you like. That’s why I decided not to change the plot and force some sort of ending just because it’s the “first” book. My goal is to fill each chapter with it’s unique adventure so you feel satisfied even with reading only one of them.
Like I said, I don’t like to look to much into the future. I love working on my daily goals and slowly moving closer to to that great achievement. Even this first stage of translation I considered to be huge and in some moments it really seemed impossible to achieve. Right now I’m close to finish it and that’s the great proof for me that it’s worth trying new things that I like and want no matter what obstacles I face. Everything is possible. I hope you’re aware of the same thing in your own life and in your own purpose. The best way to get confidence is to do something and you can always make certain steps.
